A Time For Everybody...

Extra Fine Quartz Clocks - Mantel - Wall - Desk - in real hardwood - cases; all handmade in California
A new page, my early clocks! See what started it all.
I'm still here, and I'm still working. Working on the things you can't see, so this folly continues! It doesn't look good that there will be anything to offer this Christmas 09, sorry. Supply chain is still a problem in this recession. So I'm having to divide my time a lot. Designs are coming along nicely, the shop is gigging up fine, so maybe AFTER CHRISTMAS, I'll actually be open for business. Yeah, that sucks I know- I tried, but we just can't build the inventory that we need to do online Holiday sales, this year.

...is near! Simple, yet elegant unique clocks. Okay, I admit, I'm a minimalist, it's true! But if I spent 17 hours per case, doing a lot of hand work, that would add about $1,615 to the cost of each clock, and clearly that's not A Time For Everybody, and it's no way to build a real business. Now, I'm not exactly open for business yet, but you are welcome to window shop, and give me your feedback on what your REALLY think. My skin is thick, don't worry about that!

Some of you have been waiting for years for someone to realized that today's high quality, low maintenance clocks movements, need some craftsmanship around them, rather than particle board and plastic. Not that there is anything wrong with cheap clocks, there's just a lot of them, crazy and goofy as can be. Clocks are our most functional art form, that we crazy humans collect and trade.

I started building clocks back in 1981. It beat getting a real job, and was a whole lot of fun. So some would say, I have 28 years of clock making experience, which to me is kind of laughable. Now, years later ready to retire, I decided to dust off the old tools, and start building them again, because it sure beats learning Yet Another Programming Language to do the samo samo things. And now you are about to see the fruits of this labor of love. While I'm not yet ready to file the DBA, and start wholesaling or retailing, I'm is still at hobby stage, which we are testing the waters of. It's many hours of hard work, that I sure hope that you'll want in your own home or office?

The featured clock here, is a mantel clock named "the Brick". That might not exactly be the best name I could have come up with, but it was started as an insert into other clocks, that grew it's own personality. And it's just about the exact size of a glass brick. It's made from solid (real) red oak lumber. And the one pictured here has a radio controlled (atomic) clock in it. It's one of our simplest, yet most popular clocks. It measures; 9"x9"x4" comes with your choice of 4 faces, and a selection of quartz movements. The clock is finished both front and back, so it can be used as a desk clock too. The back was designed to slide in and out for easy replacement of batteries. This clock is expected to retail for around $84. The hands are a little too long on this one, which we'll be fixing.

Besides the Brick, I have 4 other wall clocks designed and nearly ready to market. All of my clocks are handmade here in California, in very limited numbers. My shop is like my kitchen; there's only room for one butt in it, at a time. (You can write your own joke there)

If you like what you see, make sure to bookmark this website. By June, I hope to be taking advance orders. My plans are to offer both finished, and unfinished clocks. Reducing labor, reduces costs, and let's me pass that savings on to you; hence the name! So I really do have quality time for everybody.

Mail Organizer Clock

This is a large wall clock (25"x13"x3"), perfect for home or office. It features 31 day calendar (no second hand) quartz movement. Key hooks, and slots for IN & OUT & HOLD/SUPPLIES. Made of Red Oak, it's quite impressive, and yet so natural, that it fits nearly any style room. Finished in a satin lacquer, it really is our favorite clocks to date. The clock face opens though a finger hole in the side. It is expected to cost around $145.

We really need to update this already, with new pictures, and descriptions. I've been busy making improvements. Which includes a knobs to pull open the dial, and some finishing touches to the dial itself.

It is a 31 day movement, however the clock doesn't know one month from the other, so at the end of February, April, June, September, November, you will have to advance the hand yourself to the first, or to the fifth if your anything like us around here. The real trick to this clock though, is remembering that it is a 24 hour clock. Set it wrong, and it will be advancing the day at noon. lol- not that I've ever done that before!

The Keepsake Clock

This is a clock, that I'm not so certain will make it into our catalog. It is nice looking, granted, but it turned out to be an odd and awkward size. It was built in Poplar, and stained to look more like cherry. Does feature Westminster / Wittington / Recordable movement. So you could add your own chime should you want to- I picture 8 year olds belching for some reason? The Wittington chime however is a very nice change from the standard Westminster, and it's a beautiful recording. Unlike most of our clocks this one has a glass enclosed face, to make more hospitable to kitchen life. It measures 22"x11"x4". Expected to retail for around $110.

The Wine Cellar Clock

wine clock

Coming soon! The Wine Cellar Clock, holds as much as 8 bottles of wine, and loaded it weights 25 pounds. So we don't recommend hanging this on the wall. It was redesigned to be a free standing clock, but it's 35" tall, like a granddaughter clock. On a bar top, it will dominate the room. It's 35"x11"x7", the exact right size to hold any 750ml bottles safely. And the extra 3 bottles can be stood on the top, or you can store 6 wine glasses up there, or corkscrews, or nothing at all as pictured.

This clock comes with 6 melody clock. We think the selection is prefect for you and your wine companions; Westminster, Ave Maria, Somewhere Over the Rainbow, Rudolf the Red nose Reindeer, Try to Remember, and Happy Birthday- at least it's prefect around here, those are the exact songs we tend to sing, when uncorked! We will allow substitution for a full Westminster movement for the more classical minded, or a silent radio controlled (atomic) movement for the chronically lazy.

The dark spot on the side of this one is actually bark in the wood. It will not be there on any sold to the public, this is very rare defect even in the prototype. This clock is expected to cost $380, because of how very time consuming they are to build.

Future plans include adding an optional cabinet under the clock, to hold not only more wine, but for all those sundry items, that go with entertaining friends.

Parrot Head Clock?

Parrot heads have demanded a clock, or I can kiss my salt goodbye. Any suggestions, before I'm stuck with really bland cheese burgers?

I was thinking of something along the lines of Jimmy Buffett Basketball Toss. But apparently not that many of you are NBA fans? That's ok, because it apparently goes the other way too!

Pharos Clock

It's named the Pharos Clock, because the clock took on a very Mediterranean feel after the trim was added. So it kind of reminds me of the Seventh Wonder of the Ancient World, as it looks in my minds eye. The actual historic Pharos Lighthouse looked very VERY different from this, but this is an artistic license, not architecture.

This is a clock, which has tested quite positive with everyone that's seen it. To my surprise, even the very non-modernists, have taken a liking to this one. All I can say is that it is a very personable clock. There are those who like the minimalist modernism of which I might offer, yet (below). And those who want to see it developed out more. No doubt that everyone sees it like a sun ray. So I think that means, there is a lot we can do with this one piece?

By the way, the top is not wider than the base, it's an optical illusion. (25"x11 1/2"x3 3/4") The base is 11 1/2", while the clock dial is about 8 1/2" ring, which does make it top heavy by volume. So we're working on counter weighting the base some yet, before we start selling them.

There is no doubt, that this should feature a radio controlled (atomic) clock. I can get those in pendulum too. Everyone wants to see it offered both ways, and that's doable.

By the way; Pharos is the island of Pharos, which the lighthouse was on. Which is why the spelling is a little bit different than you might expect.

Unfinished & kits:

We need to complete writing our instructions, before we can offer those.

And yes, this is a site under construction! Yet another thing on the unfinished list. Things will be moved around, and many new pages will be added, soon- as this little piggy goes to market.
